The Four Quick steps to Get Started on FWD:

  1. Decide on the "client" that you will be using for Free World Dialup. Do you want to use your PC or would you like to use a dedicated IP Phone?

While we suggest you strongly consider using a dedicated IP phone because of the long term higher quality experience available, the choice is up to you.

If you decide to go the route of the dedicated IP phone, two models that we have tested and are known to work are the: Cisco ATA-186 and the Cisco 7960.

At times there are ATA 186s and 7960s available for sale on eBay. Follow the links below and you can see the current bidding for the Cisco ATA and the Cisco 7960 .

Decide on your FWD device and come back once you have received it.

If you wish to try using your PC, three choices which have been tested are:

    1. Windows Messenger (Use version 4.6 for Windows 98/2000 and version 4.7 for Windows XP - MSN 5.0 does not work with Free World Dialup.
    2. SJphone - for Windows.
    3. K phone - for Linux.

Going to the next step, we assume you have either the dedicated IP phone or have downloaded the required software.

    Now...

  2. Visit http://fwd.pulver.com and register for the service. Please write down the FWD number that you are assigned. Also remember your password. You will need this when you configure your FWD phone.

  3. Read the FWD Quick Start Guide, FWD User Information FAQ and follow the notes on how to configure your client.

  4. Call FWD# 10001 and leave a message for the FWD Team. Once you hear the recorded message, you are now live on FWD! Congrats! (You can also email: Jeff Pulver to setup a test call. )
