Current Strategies for VoIP Providers

What are existing 9-1-1 (particularly E9-1-1) solutions available today for VoIP providers and many of their customers, as the NENA and industry development work continues towards more comprehensive standardized solutions.
Roger Marshall, Engineer, TCS
Roger Marshall is a Senior Engineer with TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. in the Network Services group, based in Seattle, WA. Roger’s focus is on Standards Development and Technology planning for emerging E9-1-1 networks and messaging services. His responsibilities include working with TCS Product Management, Development, and Operations, as well as external customers and vendors to define future E9-1-1 technology as it relates to Location, Wireless, and VoIP.
Roger’s focus is on strategic technology initiatives that support the development and deployment of current VoIP technology, as well as positioning for the next generation global emergency standards. Within NENA’s VoIP Technical Committee, he is an active participant and contributor to the Location, Migratory, and Long-Term Definition working groups.
Ashish Patel, Sr. Product Manager, Intrado
Ashish Patel, senior product manager at Intrado, is responsible for product development activities of Voice over IP (VoIP) and next generation public safety solutions. Patel's robust understanding of the industry was developed through previous positions as a technology analyst with wireless technology venture funds and by leading product management organizations in creating next generation service creation solutions. During Patel's time with a tier 1 carrier, he directed R&D for next generation voice services and established a nationwide VoIP backhaul network. Patel has a degree in B.S in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina.
Ron Vidal, GVP Emerging Technologies, Level 3 Communications
As Group Vice President of Emerging Opportunities, Ron and his team scout new technology and business models that may impact Level 3 globally over the next 2-5 years including wireless, optical networking and other advanced communications technologies.
Over the last 17 years in the telecommunications industry, he has held executive positions in network planning; engineering and construction; legal/regulatory; corporate development; and sales and marketing.
While at MFS Communications, Ron was Vice President of New Ventures, where his team developed and introduced the first commercial DSL service for high speed Internet access.
A native of Pennsylvania, Ron received a B.S. from Drexel University.
