Welcome to the Pulver.Communicator Geek Zone!

We have worked quite hard to create the pulver.Communicator feature set, leveraging a host of different technologies to bring you an IP Communications client application that is at the very cusp of the so-called “cutting edge”.  And here in the Geek Zone you can learn about these features in all of their detail.

Unlocking SIP Settings

pulver.Communicator can now be "unlocked" and used with any SIP-compliant network! Please be aware, though, that only users who are comfortable "tinkering under the hood" should configure Communicator with non-FWD SIP proxies as no support will be offered for other service providers

Instant Messaging

pulver.Communicator provides robust Instant Messaging service with which subscribers to the FWD Communications Network can send IMs to their SIP-enabled contacts, as well as to their buddies using the four most popular IM networks (AOL, Yahoo!, ICQ, and MSN).  And not only can users easily extend Communicator’s IM functionality from a person-to-person environment to a multi-party one, but they can do so across the different IM networks!  For instance, if you want to hold a group IM session that includes your sister (a staunch user of MSN Messenger), your Dad (a Yahoo! Messenger devotée), and your Grandma (AOL-all-the-way for Grandma), you can now do using pulver.Communicator!

Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) Connectivity

The FWD Communications Network is dedicated to providing reliable Voice-over-IP connectivity to all of its users.  With pulver.Communicator, our user community is assured of direct, easy-to-use VoIP service, and this service also extends to users of all of the SIP services that have established partnerships with FWD.

Call-Me Links

As if all of that connectivity wasn’t enough, pulver.Communicator’s Call-Me Link feature can be used to establish VoIP connections with non-SIP-enabled Buddy List contacts.  Sending a Call-Me Link to a contact provides that contact with an easy means to establish an immediate VoIP call-back to the sender, via FWD Communication's FWDTalk service. The recipient of a Call-Me Link need not be a Free World Dialup subscriber, they just need to be running XP on a PC that has a microphone and speakers (or they need to have a headset plugged into the appropriate jacks).

Webcam Video

As if all of that connectivity wasn’t enough, with pulver.Communicator not only are users able to communicate by voice, but they can now broadcast video to their SIP-enabled contacts via webcam and receive webcam video from those contacts as well.  No specific webcam configuration is required (provided both parties have a webcam configured and connected to their computer system).

Social Networking

One especially interesting aspect of pulver.Communicator is its capacity for social networking.  We have created a strong contact-sharing environment through our new application, one that offers its users the ability to:

  • Make their Buddy Lists visible to other users*
  • View the Buddy Lists of their contacts

*Users of pulver.Communicator can opt to not share their personal contact information and thus set their own privacy tolerance.

Firewall Traversal

Pulver.Communicator currently supports UPnP, Direct Connections, and both STUN and NAT Connectivity.  We are not limiting the application, though, to these firewall traversal technologies as we are always striving to improve the end-user experience.  You can rest assured that as new firewall techniques come to the fore, and as existing ones continue to evolve, we will be working to stay ahead of the curve.

Please download the pulver.Communicator User Manual to learn more about the product. This handy guide not only details the use of pulver.Communicator, but also offers a list of application prerequisites and detailed installation instruction.
