Today, customers have a choice of applications - both proprietary and open - most of which are dependent upon the prevailing architectures and hardware from the incumbent vendors and networks. TDM networks are now IP-enabled: IP network devices such as routers become "voice enabled". However, true convergence will mean that the market will need to adopt a more open & flexible approach: the network will need to become application oriented yet service independent, and the services across the network will need to encompass modularity, virtualisation and open standards. This presentation discusses the evolution of voice networks to service-oriented communications networks, and the choices both vendors & customers will need to be aware of when approaching the market.

Ralf Ebbinghaus is the Managing Director and co-founder of Swyx Solutions, responsible for all Sales & Marketing Activities of Swyx worldwide. Mr. Ebbinghaus studied Business Administration in Dortmund and Dublin and holds a Master of Business Administration and a PhD in Marketing from the University of Dortmund.
