Supporting services that have traditionally been provided by the incumbent carrier in a more competitive world are going to require a new architecture for the delivery of these services. This panel discusses the regulatory requirements and the impact of these requirements on carrier services.

Lawrence Conroy, Sr. Systems Architect,, Siemens

Lawrence has worked in computing and networking for over 25 years. He has been involved on a wide range of projects, starting with system definition of a Battlefield telecommunications, distributed computing systems and the early days of commercial IP networking. Since then he has focused on computer support for communications, with development of CTI systems, Intelligent Network service design, and over 10 years work on Internet based personal communications architecture. He is active in ETSI TIPHON and the IETF, and has authored several RFCs. His current interests lie in ENUM (he has been heavily involved in the UK ENUM Trial) and expanding the use of ENUM deployments beyond pure SIP routing.



Ross Epstein, Partner, Nath & Associates

Ross Epstein is the Managing Partner of the San Diego office of Nath & Associates LLP. He is a legal advisor and provider of general counsel services to small and medium sized companies as well as to individual entrepreneurs including high tech and life sciences. Mr. Epstein brings an unusual entrepreneurial perspective to the practice of law. He has a unique affinity for the entrepreneurial client due to his hands-on experience in business as a founder, President and CEO of BCH Communications. Mr. Epstein developed BCH Communications into a multi-million dollar telecommunications/internet business and also filled the in-house counsel role. This experience combined with his prior business litigation practice makes him uniquely qualified to advise and counsel growing companies.



Viswas Purani, Director, Emerging Technologies & Applications, American Power Conversion

Viswas Purani is a Director of Emerging Technologies and Applications with APC based in RI, USA. He joined APC in 1997 and has been product and program manager for Symmetra and InfraStruXure product lines, intimately involved with their design, development, launch and support worldwide. He has successfully started a data center support company in the Middle-East as well as Motorola semiconductor distribution in western India. He has a Bachelors degree with a major in power electronics engineering in 1988 and has been involved with technology transfers of UPS Systems and AC/DC drives from leading American and European companies. He has a Masters degree in business administration with a major in international business in 1999.



Richard Stastny, Senior Analyst, OeFEG

Richard has over 25 years of experience in computing, switching, signalling, numbering and networking. He was involved in the adaption of digital switching systems (DMS-100 and EWSD) for the Austrian market and also in the introduction of OAM and billing systems within Telekom Austria. He is participating actively in various international standard bodies, e.g. ETSI SMG, TMN, SPAN and TIPHON, VISIONng, ITU-T SG2 and IETF. In the last years he was responsible in OeFEG for the convergence of NGN networks, the migration to IP based networks, VoIP and ENUM. In this role he was involved in the latest developments in ITU-T regarding the 878 country code for UPT and the recent ENUM related recommendations.



Per Wilhelmsen, Sr. Advisor, Dpt. for Terminals & Networks, Norwegian Post and Telecommunications Authority

Since 1995 Per Wilhelmsen has been senior adviser at the Norwegian Post and Telecommunications Authority. Mr. Wilhelmsen has worked for 25 years in Televerket/Telenor in a number of positions, among others as head of Technical Department of The Oslo region (1982-1987). He graduated from Norwegian University on Technology (Trondheim), Telecommunications, 1969.
