The Rising Tide of VoIP Islands
Tuesday, January 25, 2005, 9:00am - 11:00am
We are at a stage now where interconnection between VoIP networks is becoming more commonplace and we are able to introduce features that would not be available on the PSTN. This panel is a two-part discourse discourse of Circuits vs. Packets & Switches vs. Routers.
Part I
Circuits vs. Packets
The Data Network surpasses the voice network as the largest transport on the backbone.
· What issues face us as the revenue model on voice continues to erode?
· What is the rate of Broadband adoption worldwide?
· Is the Internet self-supporting?
· What is the impact on the ILEC’s bottom line?
· Will traffic segmentation yield new pricing?
Part II
Switches vs. Routers
The interconnection of the PSTN with the Internet has been changing over the years. Solutions that support Wireless, Wholesale, Voice over Broadband have pushed the technology.
· What is the future of interconnection?
· Will the network core compete with Mesh Networking for a new model of transport?
· When does the convergence of the technology impact the LOBs of the carrier?
· What role will the Enterprise play in the future?
