The Incumbents are in the fight for their lives right now with Cable and Wireless taking market share and making it hard for the traditional carrier to find growth strategies. The service providers share their vision on how they will utilize VoIP technologies, to reduce costs and increase revenue with new services.



Katherine Bagin, IP Telephony VP, Product Marketing & Distribution, AT&T

Katherine is AT&T’s Vice President of Telephony responsible for introducing new leading edge technology into the residential market place. Specifically she leads efforts for AT&T’s CallVantagesm Product Management, Marketing Sales and Distribution.

Previously, in her role as New Services Development VP, Katherine created an Innovations Growth Platform introducing New Services to sell to AT&T’s base of 40M consumers. The role was a forward facing position requiring strong collaborative leadership to build and lead a dynamic cross-functional team that continues to undertake the implementation of multiple trials in a disciplined yet entrepreneurial fashion.

Katherine holds an Executive MBA from Harvard University. She earned her undergraduate degree from Rutgers College, and a Master’s degree in Information Sciences from the same university.



Joe Glynn, VP IP Product Innovations, Qwest

As Vice President of IP Product Strategy with Qwest Communications in Denver, Colorado, Joe Glynn is responsible for defining the product roadmap for Qwest. Specific areas of focus include Voice-over-IP services, WiFi/WiMax, and portfolio planning.

Mr. Glynn joined Qwest in 1997 and formed the product management group for Data Products. In this role, Mr. Glynn had the responsibility for starting the product management organization for Qwest’s Dedicated Internet Access, VPN, Managed Firewall, and wholesale private label dial products.

Prior to Qwest, Mr. Glynn was with US WEST !NTERPRISE Networking Services. There, Mr. Glynn played a key role in developing US WEST’s development and market entry for DSL. Mr. Glynn started his career with AT&T at Bell Laboratories where he developed packet switching technologies and in the Network Services Division where he deployed AT&T’s first frame relay packet network.

A graduate of Northeastern University, Mr. Glynn earned his MSEE in computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. He lives and runs with his wife and four young children in Boulder, Colorado.



Kevin Mitchell, Directing Analyst, Service Provider Voice & Data, Infonetics Research

Kevin joined Infonetics Research in 1997. Specializing in vendor and service provider trends, offerings, and strategies, Kevin covers MPLS, IP, and ATM from the edge to the core; VoIP and circuit to packet technologies; routers and multiservice switches; service provider capex and revenue; and Internet and data services. He speaks year-round at events such as MPLSCon, SuperComm, and VON, and leads regular Webinars for Light Reading. He writes articles for publications such as Telecommunications Magazine and Telephony Magazine. As a consultant to vendors and VCs, he identifies new market opportunities and advises on positioning, product development, business plans. He graduated summa cum laude from Boston College in 1997 with a BS in marketing and philosophy.



Michelle Swittenberg, Executive Director, Consumer VoIP, Verizon

Michelle Minus Swittenberg is a Director in Verizon Communication’s Retail Markets group responsible for developing and implementing the strategy and product offer for Verizon’s Voice Over IP solution for consumers.

Prior to this role, Michelle served in a planning role within Retail Markets, where her responsibilities included developing the strategy for Verizon’s WiFi hotspot initiative.. During her career with Verizon and the former GTE, Michelle has held positions in Strategy and Product Management.

Michelle holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
