Job Description:
This is a hands-on, Senior Network Engineer position that focuses on VoIP access. The successful candidate will have in depth expertise in VoIP protocols (SIP, RTP, TFTP and related Protocols) and their performance from the edge thru the core of the network. Additionally this individual will have expertise in a wide range of data network access; from Analog modems to Broadband technologies (Cable, DSL, Wireless, etc.) including home networking.
Responsibilities:
The Senior Network Engineer will have responsibilities including but not limited to: Support VoIP planning and testing as well as troubleshoot VoIP problems in a state-of-the-art access network lab as well as in production environments. The successful candidate will join a staff of Engineers that support access data networks around the world and will serve as a VoIP expert providing consulting/solutions across various groups. Will articulate opinions on matters impacting VoIP and consider the impact on other areas in the company. Will Debug systems as well as develop creative and innovative solutions. Will Research new VoIP access technologies and make recommendations. Will Foresee potential issues and proactively address them before they become problems.
Skills Required:
Significant experience and expertise troubleshooting problems that range from the arcane to the complex.
Must know VoIP protocols (SIP, RTP, TFTP and related).
A strong working knowledge of current VoIP technologies and their implementations, from edge elements (ATAs) to core network elements (Soft Switch, Gateway, etc.).
Working knowledge of access network issues that impact VoIP performance as well as their measurement and analysis. -You need to have a strong working knowledge of data communications and Internet knowledge including: TCP/UDP/IP, routing, tunneling, PPP, ATM, and mobile IP.
Must know access methods including cable modems, DSL, satellite, and wireless.
Must be proficient with Windows, especially its communications and networking capabilities.
Must know the latest communications technologies as well as technologies of the future.
Will be highly organized to handle large number of simultaneous activities in a very fast paced environment, yet flexible enough to respond quickly to critical issues.
Must be a strong communicator who is skilled in developing and maintaining key professional relationships.
Educational Background:
A minimum of Bachelor's Degree in a technical field (i.e., computer science, engineering).
A Master's Degree is desirable.
Skills Desired:
You should have experience as a VoIP network architect/engineer, especially at an ISP.
Should have knowledge of home networking, Macintosh, Linux, and/or Unix proficiency.
Previous project management experience.
