Deploying Open Source in the Enterprise
Monday, September 19, 2005, 1:00pm - 2:15pm

Voice is not the only application for OS in the Enterprise, and is being used at all levels, including the IT layer, the application layer, and as middleware. Proprietary software still dominates in the Enterprise, but many data-centric applications lend themselves well to OS, such as peer-to-peer file sharing. Enterprises need to have confidence in OS, and vendors must be able to address some key questions.
• How well can OS scale to keep pace with growth?
• Can vendors really support OS across the whole Enterprise?
• How well will it integrate with existing networks and software platforms?
• Does quality or performance need to be compromised with the lower cost of OS?
