The Internet is an in-band open network constructed to facilitate the free flow of information, while the telecommunication industry is currently operating an out-of-band network whose aim is to protect overall reliability. The panel will describe security issues and solutions resulting from SIP integration.



Cullen Jennings, Distinguished Engineer, Cisco Systems

Dr. Cullen Jennings is a Distinguished Engineer in the Voice Technology Group at Cisco. Cullen came to Cisco from Vovida Networks which developed an open-source toolkit for Voice-over-IP. He is also an author of O'Reilly's title "Practical VoIP" and the co-chair of the IETF IPTEL Working Group. Currently Cullen is focusing on conferencing, security, and firewall and NAT traversal. Still active in the SIP and open source communities,
Cullen recently contributed a prototype Instant Messaging and Presence client which integrates strong end-to-end security.



Jiri Kuthan, Director of Engineering, Iptel.org

Jiri Kuthan is founder and technical leader of iptel.org. He has been responsible for engineering architecture of iptel's SIP services and underlying infrastructure. Prior to founding iptel.org, Jiri was working with GMD Fokus, and MCI Worldcom. Jiri has been actively participating in IETF standardization and serves on TPC of iptel workshop and International SIP.



Tom Kershaw, Vice President, VoIP Services, VeriSign, Inc.

Mr. Kershaw is responsible for a suite of new service offerings fornext-generation networks worldwide.

Tom joined VeriSign with twelve years experience in product design for VoIP, Intelligent Network systems and enhanced services. Prior to VeriSign, Tom was CTO at SS8 Networks, where he was responsible for overall engineering design for voice messaging, VoIP, and Lawful Intercept products. Prior to SS8 Networks, Tom was Vice President of Strategic Marketing at Clarent Corp.

Tom holds a B.A. in Economics/Political Science from New York University, an M.A. in Latin American Economics from the University of London and a DIP in Economics from the London School of Economics.
