Many of our Industry leaders have gotten their doctorates regarding the technology. These panelists explain the lessons they have learned in dealing with Education and Implementation



Eric Burger, Vice President and CTO, Brooktrout Technology

Eric Burger is vice president, chief technology officer for Next-Gen Communications for Brooktrout Technology where he is responsible for setting the technology direction for Brooktrout's current and future next generation products. Mr. Burger represents Brooktrout by participating on several industry standards forums including the IETF, IEEE and SIP Forum. Prior to joining Brooktrout, Mr. Burger co-founded SnowShore Networks where he served as Chief Technology Officer responsible for building real-time, Internet-centric, large scale, packet media processing servers. Mr. Burger has held several strategic positions in the communications industry, including chief scientist at ADC/Centigram Communications Corporation, where he led the development of Centigram's IP-centric architecture; and vice president of engineering for The Telephone Connection, Inc. (TTCI).



Joseph Mazzeo, Managing Partner, Crossfire Consulting

Joseph Eric Mazzeo is a CPA, who has worked as a senior auditor for Price Waterhouse & a VP of Finance for a major real estate company. He became a Marketing Director for GE Information Services, then Director of Sales and Vice President of Marketing for Computer Sciences Corp (CSC), and then President & CEO of Minitel - an early information industry pioneer.

For the last 15 years, he has consulted with Lockheed Martin, Verizon, Piitney Bowes, AT&T, and other Fortune 500 companies, as well as the FCC. He owns & helps manage 8 companies involved in various aspects of computing & communications. He will complete his doctorate in IS later this year.



Henry Sinnreich, CTO, pulver.com

Dr. Sinnreich is at present CTO at Pulver.com and is working on new Internet communication services. Henry Sinnreich has held various engineering and executive positions at MCI and has been involved in Internet and multimedia services for over 10 years, including the development of the MCI flagship MCI Advantage service based on SIP. Previous work at MCI includes microwave radio, lightwave engineering, digital cross-connects, laboratory testing, long distance telephony switching, frame relay, SMDS, and web based IT systems.

Dr. Sinnreich was also a contributor to early Internet work, such as the upgrade by MCI of the NSF IP network, the first IP Gigabit trial network in the N.E. USA Corridor, RSVP validation on the IP wide area network and support for the global internetMCI IP service.

Henry Sinnreich is also a contributor to the SIP and multimedia related working groups in the IETF. Henry Sinnreich has been awarded the title of Pioneer for VoIP in 2000 at the VON conference in Stockholm, Sweden and is a co-founder and former member of the board of the International SIP Forum. Henry Sinnreich is a member of the IEEE and ACM and is also a frequent speaker and lecturer on Internet communications; he has a number of publications on this topic and has co-authored the books "Internet Communications Using SIP" and "SIP Beyond VoIP".



Arun Sobti, CEO and Chairman, IP Unity

Dr. Arun Sobti is Chairman and CEO of IP Unity, whose HMS6000 is a carrier grade, highly scalable media/applications server deployed in leading wireline, wireless and cable carriers around the world. Arun leads the company's vision and success in enhanced services, and established the company's defining 'many services, one platform' approach. A well-respected veteran among ILECs, cable operators and wireless service providers, he has 30 years of leadership with IP Unity, ADC's Broadband Access and Transport Group, Motorola's global businesses and third generation wireless. He is on the boards of Onotologent Networks, Airespace and ManyStreams Networks.
