Application Servers

Combining all these elements would do little more than complete a phone call if it was not for the value that is brought by these servers that enable the call controllers and gateways to mesh into a solution that supports new services. This panel looks at the way application servers interact and how they are utilized in the development of new applications.



Don Jackson, VP of Advanced Telephony, Tellme Networks

Don Jackson is Vice President of Advanced Telephony at Tellme Networks, where he works on enhancing the functionality and features of Tellme's connections to phone and data networks. His responsibilities include the SIP version of the Tellme platform, and the development of communication applications for carriers and service providers.



Jack Kozik, Director, Next Generation Evolution and Architecture Department, Lucent Technologies

Jack Kozik is Director of the Next Generation Evolution and Architecture Department in the Enhanced Services Group of Lucent Technologies in Naperville, Illinois, USA. His department is responsible for planning the evolution of Lucent's Network Services products, focusing on converged voice/data services for next generation fixed, mobile and broadband networks.

Jack's team participates in numerous forums, including industry Conferences and standards meetings, active in emerging communications technologies like Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), 3rd Party Application Programmer Interfaces (e.g. Parlay/OSA), Instant Message and Presence, and web-based voice services languages (VoiceXML).

Prior to his present job, Jack was in Lucent's Switching organization, leading the evolution planning for Lucentâ??s 5ESS Switch product into the packet and mobile technology areas.

Mr. Kozik has a BS degree in computer science and an MS in electrical engineering, both from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, USA.



Mark Mcilvane, President & CEO, Personeta

As President and CEO of Personeta, Mark is responsible for setting the overall strategic direction of the company. Prior to Personeta, Mark was Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales for IP Unity.He also held several positions at Clarent Corporation, most recently Executive Vice President,Business Operations.

Before Clarent, Mark was Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Converse Technology, a leading provider of network-based multimedia enhanced communications services. He has also held senior level positions at Bell & Howell Company and ACI Telecom/US West.



Paul Nussbaum, Director, Marketing, LogicaCMG

Paul Nussbaum, marketing director and product manager for LogicaCMG, has global responsibilities for LogicaCMG’s uOne product. Paul has extensive experience working with 3G, cable and wireline carriers in areas related to content, SANS, security and NMS. Utilizing his extensive industry experience, Paul has successfully facilitated the sale and delivery of messaging solutions to leading 3G mobile operators. Prior to joining LogicaCMG, Paul was manager of product marketing for the Unified Communications Software Business unit at Cisco Systems. Paul has authored numerous articles in mobile and wireless publications and participated as a speaker at many industry events including TMIA, VMA and the Cisco Networkers event.



Paul Singh, VP, Business Development, Veraz Networks

Prior to Veraz, Paul was VP Business Development at ipVerse, Inc. Paul has over 20 years of experience in general management, marketing and business development in the communications industry. He was CEO and co-founder of Internetware, an Internet security company that merged with Quarterdeck Corporation. Later, he was VP of marketing at Castelle, a fax server company. Earlier, as president of Launch Marketing, Paul worked with many networking companies to develop and implement product strategy and launch plans. The client list for Launch Marketing included Ascend, Netopia and Sun Microsystems. Prior to Launch Marketing, Paul was director of marketing for Telebit, a pioneer of remote access technology, later acquired by Cisco Systems. He also worked with Sun Microsystems on projects involving integration of voice and data networking, and with 3Com in various product management and strategic marketing roles.

Paul has co-authored three books on Internet related topics, published by New Riders Publishing. Paul has spoken at many industry conferences including Internet World, Networld Interop and Supercomm. He holds a BSEE from Delhi University, India and an MBA from St. John's University, NY.



Garland Sharratt, VP, Partner Development & Chief Architect, Convedia

As VP of Partner Development and Chief Architect, Garland Sharratt managesConvedia's service architecture, standards, and partnering initiatives. Histelecommunications experience includes Bell-Northern Research (BNR) andNortel Networks and has covered PSTN switching, ISDN, AIN, PCS, packettelephony, and multimedia communications, in a range of business andtechnical capacities. Garland received a BASc in Electrical Engineeringfrom the University of Toronto and an MBA from the University of Ottawa.



Bob Wise, Principal Architect, Continuous Computing

Mr. Wise has been a principal architect in the Office of the CTO for Continuous Computing since November 2004. Previously he was the company's vice-president of engineering from June 2003. Mr. Wise is an expert in modern software development methodologies. Previously he was the vice president of softswitch development for Oresis and was the CTO/VP Engineering of softswitch pioneer Vsys prior to its acquisition by Oresis. Before Oresis Mr. Wise was a system architect at MCI. Mr. Wise has a B.S. in computer science from the College of William and Mary and an M.S. in computer science from the University of Virginia.
