The problem with Mobility is you never know if your intended locations will provide access to WiFi. These WiFi network operators discuss the issues they face in usefully deploying WiFi, and provide users with insights on where to access hot spots and the deployment of support services for roaming.
Alan Duric, CTO, Telio
Alan Duric is co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Telio AS, the fastest growing Nordic Broadband Telephony/Multi-Modal service provider.
Duric is an early pioneer of VoIP and brings almost a decade of experience in VoIP and active contribution through his development and standardization work (as a co-author and/or contributor to number of IETF, ETSI and ITU standards). Beside his standardization work, as a developer and senior systems architect at Ericsson, Alan was involved in the early deployment and development of some of the worlds largest VoIP networks such as deltathree.
At Global IP Sound (suppliers of voice components for Skype), Duric worked as Senior Systems Architect, where he steered standardization efforts and was responsible for iLBC (internet Low Bitrate Codec), an IETF and CableLabs standard codec for VoIP.
Tom Ely, Fellow, Telcordia
Tom Ely began his career at Bell Labs, transitioned to Bellcore at divestiture, and is now Director of Mobility Solutions at Telcordia. He has more than 33 years of experience. He is responsible for developing architectures for the delivery of new mobile and converged services. He led the team which developed Telcordia's SPACE service creation system. He also has extensive experience in the development of new services including video and data services. Tom is a Telcordia Fellow and an IEEE Fellow. He holds patents in the area of high availability systems, service creation, converged services, and soft switch architecture.
Niels Jonker, CTO, Boingo Wireless
Niels Jonker is responsible for building and operating Boingo's engineering team, core technologies and systems, including client software, networks, authentication, billing and IT infrastructure. Prior to joining Boingo, Niels was the chief network architect at EarthLink. Before that, he was the director of systems and services at OneMain, which was acquired by EarthLink. Prior to OneMain, Niels founded and built US Internet, a successful regional ISP servicing the south-eastern US. He has consulted on information technology issues with numerous other companies. In addition, Niels is the co-author of A Guide to Operating Systems (Course Technologies). Niels studied Computer Science at VU University in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Dick Snyder, Sr. Vice President, Marketing, Concourse Communications
Dick Snyder is Senior Vice President, Product Marketing of Concourse Communications Group. Concourse is in the business of installing and managing neutral-host wireless systems in places such as airports, tunnels, and other public venues, acting on behalf of the governing authorities. Before joining Concourse, Mr. Snyder spent 34 years at Lucent Technologies and its forerunners, the last 16 of which were in various disciplines associated with the Wireless Industry. Mr. Snyder then joined MobileStar Network, a now-defunct startup broadband wireless ISP operating in public hotspots, where he was Vice President of Business Development. In his current job with Concourse, he is responsible for managing the 4-P’s of Marketing.
